The Phoenix Rising School was founded by Rebecca and Jim Capezio in August, 2010. Inspired by the principles outlined in the book Drive by Daniel Pink, the founders decided to create a school that embodied autonomy and consciousness-based education and an organization built upon integrity and transparency. Beginning in September, 2010 with 45 students ranging from Pre-K through 6th grade, PRS now has over 50 children in attendance and continues to expand.
Since the school’s inception, the staff and board have worked with consultants, researched different methodologies, and visited like-minded schools to define and fully develop their educational model. The result is an exceptionally rare combination of rigor, autonomy and consciousness-based learning that make it unique in the educational world.
Message from Rebecca Capezio, Board Chair
My husband Jim and I founded the Phoenix Rising School because we wanted our children to have a brilliant, inspiring education, but we had been unable to find exactly what we were looking for: a school that prioritized the nurture of divine confidence. When we thought about what mattered most to us, when we thought about what we’d most want to impart to our children, we knew that this was it. We started The Phoenix Rising School on the premise that we would do our best to nurture divine confidence in all our students. And our growing student body attests to the fact that we really are doing this, and that we are becoming a stellar playground of the mind.
