At PRS, we know that autonomy, mastery, and purpose are key motivating factors for children and adults alike. Relevance is a key criteria for curriculum, and lessons and theme studies begin with “why”: why is this relevant? How is this applicable? Because of our small class sizes and multi-age classroom design, teachers are able to form strong relationships with each student and learn their individual styles and needs.
By allowing students to explore and develop their own passions, we cultivate intrinsic motivation, self-direction and personal responsibility. Inquiry lies at the core of this model, as students are trained to question their own assumptions and reach their own conclusions through a rigorous and challenging process. Students learn about how to function in groups and explore different roles and responsibilities while getting to know each other. Project based learning gives every student the opportunity to explore their unique interests, share them with others, and begin to instill in themselves personal standards of excellence that will remain with them for the rest of their lives.
